One Player From Canterbury

A HIGHLIGHT of the women’s Indoor basketball season in Canterbury promises to be the match between the touring Australian side and the South Island, which will be played in Christchurch on Wednesday, May 17. Women’s Indoor basketball in Canterbury has been rapidly growing in strength and last season the provincial side won the national title—the culmination of several years’ hard work. However, in spite of this great success, Canterbury will only have one representative in the South Island side, Mrs J. Baker. Mrs Baker is a hard driving player of considerable ability. She normally plays at centre but is equally at home in any other position on the court. This makes her a

player of great value to any team. One of the reason’s for Canterbury’s small representation in the South Island team is the nonavailability of many of its leading players. The loss of such accomplished performers as Misses J. Taylor, P. Miller and Mrs B. Ross will be keenly felt Miss S. Chamberlain is perhaps one Canterbury player worthy of a position in the South Island team who was passed over. Her inexplicable omission from the Canterbury representative team last season must surely have robbed her of the chance to play against the Australians.
