Clean Air Society To Seek Aid From Firms

The Clristchurch Clean Air Society will enlist the support of industrial and commercial organisations in its campaign against air pollution. The vice-president of the society (Mr P. V. Neary) said yesterday that circulars were being sent out to firms seeking donations to meet the cost of a public education programme on clean air.

He said the society hoped the programme would lead to a rekindling of civic pride and the elimination of air pollution in Christchurch.

He urged people to support the society in its drive against apathy toward the campaign for clean air. Circulars with application forms for membership of the society will be delivered personally and by mail. The society also plans to give lectures to explain the general background to the air pollution problem in Christchurch. Mr Neary said that if the campaign was successful Christchurch could become an attractively clean city, making the most of its natural advantages and free from the dirt and grime formerly associated with Industry.

He said that if the Christchurch Clean Air Society won the same amount of support as similar organisations abroad funds would be adequate to promote its aims.
