Helpmann As Ugly Sister

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) NEW YORK, April 19. The Australian-born dancer, Robert Helpmann, and Sir Frederick Ashton, drew continuous ripples of laughter for their portrayal of the Ugly Sisters in the Royal Ballet’s “Cinderella” at the Lincoln Centre in New York last night. The ballet is the first company, other than the New York Metropolitan Opera, to perform at the Centre, the new home of the “Met".

Sir Frederick Ashton, aged 61, director of the ballet, staged “Cinderella” to the music of Prokofieff.

The prince was danced by Donald Macleary and Svetlana Beriosova was Cinderella.
