Student Flats
Sir,—Perhaps the most valuable lessons I have learned at university have been those which have revealed human nature and motivation. I have been forced to learn that often my own interests must take second place if I am to seek the good of the whole. No young person In Christchurch is without example as he matures in this way. I have in my student years met dozens of community members and leaders who, by their wisdom and selfless enthusiasm, are Influencing and helping young people towards maturity and responsibility. The same young person is, however, often shattered by the ignorance, selfishness, and bigotry which he finds still existing in parts of the community. Congratulations to Mr P. S. Orr on his plans for student accommodation. May the light of his example never be extinguished by the selfishness of those who would remain in comfortable obscurity.— Yours, etc., J. C. ANDERSON, Past President, University of Canterbury Students* Association. April 19, 1967.
