France Rugby Champion
(X.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON. France won the five-nation championship when it beat Ireland, 11-6, in Dublin on Saturday. The French finished with six points from their four matches. England, beaten 34-21 by Wales
in Cardiff on Saturday shared second place with Ireland and Scotland, each with four points. Wales, last season’s champion, was last, with two points.
France’s hero was once again the 30-year-old fly-half, G. Camberabero, who kicked two goals and one conversion to make his aggregate 76 points In his five international matches this season.
France regained the title It last held in 1962 by scoring one goal and two dropped goals to Ireland’s one penalty goal and one try.
Wales gave a spectacular display to trounce England. In a great game of open Rugby, the Welsh scored five goals, one dropped goal and two penalty goals to England’s four penalty goals and three tries. K. Jarrett, a newcomer to the Welsh team, at full-back, played a big part in the victory, scoring 19 points—a try, two penalty goals and five conversions. Speedier and more enterprising than England, the Welsh took full advantage of their opponents* errors. Their scorers besides Jarrett, were W. Raybould (dropped goal), G. Davies (two tries), D. Bebb (try) and D. Morris (try). For England, R. Hosen kicked four penalty goals, J. Barton scored two, tries and K. Savage one.
