Prompt With Accounts
There were county councils which could produce annual accounts with promptness and efficiency equal to those of the Central Canterbury Electric Power Board, said Mr G. A. Hay, clerk to the Ashley and Kowai County Councils, yesterday.
Mr Hay was commenting on a leading article, “Efficient Accounting,” in “The Press” on Saturday, which said that “other local bodies, not to mention government departments, and many business firms, should take note” that the annual accounts of the Central Canterbury Power Board were delivered to members on April 7. The Ashley county accounts were completed on April 4 and considered by the council on April 6, said Mr Hay. The Kowai County accounts were submitted to the council on April 14. Staff of the Government Audit Office began auditing both sets of accounts on April 13, said .Mr Hay.
