Hayes Has Good Day

The Adelaide trainer, C. S. Hayes, won three races last Saturday with New Zealand-bred horses.

Valdemar (Copenhagen II Manaveen) and Bright Blend (Summertime—Briilante) were winners for the stable at the Cheltenham meeting in South Australia.

Fileur (Le Filou—Dulcie) was most impressive in winning the Third Preston Handicap, for two-year-olds, at Mobnee Valley. He won in the style of a stayer; he was second last when the field settled down, and with half a mile to go was about 20 lengths from the lead. Hayes now plans to spell Fileur and has mapped out a tentative spring campaign to include the Caulfield Guineas and the Victoria Derby. He will also enter the youngster for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups. A third New Zealand-bred winner at Cheltenham last week was Goldtdme (Summertime— Regal Nib), which won the principal race, the Tulloch Handicap.

Association Satisfied (N.Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH. The secretary of the New Zee. land Jockey,’ Association (Mr J. Murchison) yesterday expressed satistacUon-wlth the way the Southland track dispute had been settled. Mr Murchison congratulated those concerned for the manner in which they had investigated the jockeys' claims that the racing circuit was unsafe. He said it was a “credit to all parties.” There will be no more racing at the Southland track this season.
