TROTTING Royal Court Picked At Methven Today

The scratching of Wallacetown at a late hour yesterday for the Lyndhurst Handicap at Methven today has left the first leg of the Methven Trotting Club’s on-course double without a firm favourite.

Now any of a dozen could be the popular fancy but the chances are that Martin Brigade, Vapour and Single Way will be high on the list. Of the others, Tehaw and Last Round could have the best backing but there will be strong support also for Doctor Scott, the only runner on the list of reserves to get back in the field. The Lyndhurst Handicap is one of two races for trotters on the Methven Trotting Club’s programme. The other is the Lauriston Handicap in which Royal Court might succeed. Royal Court was an unlucky third at Rangiora last Saturday. He was all but knocked down when trotting easily inside the last three furlongs of his race. He should be untroubled to make amends at Methven. Grace Harwar was a winner at Washdyke on February 25 following on some sound efforts at her previous racing. She is more than useful and could again be prominent Bonny Strathair, unbeaten in his last two starts, Fair Play, Tatsy Brigade, Lochaber and Young Morris could also race prominently. Brigade’s Advice, Golden Fleece and Frostibon form a likely trio for the second leg of the on-course double, the First Spaxton Handicap. The T.A.B. double will be run on the J. McCloy Memorial Handicap and the Springburn Handicap, the last-start winners, Dryden Smoke and Trader Horn forming a likely combination. Fair weather is forecast and the track will be in good order.
