Clash With D.C. Day
The headmaster of Bumside High School (Mr C. Cross) on Thursday evening suggested that the mid-year break starting date be fixed for July 10. “That’s a good date,” said high school board member (Mr E. C. Robinson). “It is decimal currency day.”
When several board members had indicated to the headmaster that July 10 might not be such a suitable date to let the children out of school, he decided to hold the question over till the board’s next meeting. “There seems a strong feeling that the schoolchildren should be tied up on that day,” he said. “I think I had better reconsider the date but I can’t see why the children cannot be free,” he said. “I think it would have great educational value.”
