APPEAL TO SAVE YORK MlNSTER.—Britain’s largest Gothic cathedral, built mainly during the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries, has developed serious structural weaknesses, as illustrated on the diagram held by Mr B. Fielden, surveyor of York Minster fabric. His report has resulted in an appeal for £2 million for repairs to the building. Meanwhile, glass strips have been fixed over 50 of the more serious cracks in the masonry, and they are inspected daily.
