Home For Aged Closed
The Teresa Green Old People’s home in Waltham was closed on Thursday after many years of use by the North Canterbury Hospital Board as an old people’s home.
As the building was very old and the Lyndhurst property had been redecorated, the board had derided to transfer the occupants, said the board’s secretary (Mr J. G. Laurenson). Lyndhurst was more central for visiting and as it had been a hospital it had better facilities to cater for old people, he said. Before the board converted it to an old people’s home many years ago, the Teresa Green building had been used as an orphanage and then a children’s home, said Mr Laurenson. The building had been named after a board member who died recently.
