Brilliant Seven Furlongs’ Work

A brilliant seven furlongs gallop by the Hawke's Bay Cup candidates Dalvui, High Disdain and Gold Dowa, was the outstanding feature of a busy training session at Hastings yesterday morning.

Fon, which has been troubled by a bruised heel since winning the Goodbehere Handicap, ran an easy five furlongs. He hit out freely, but his trainer, C. Cameron said he would not know definitely whether he would run in the Cup until later. However, he thought there was a good chance the horse would start. The Takanini visitor, Castle Dee, impressed with h&s work and so did Point Duty. The fastest six furlongs was that of Day and Sir Juvante. The course proper trestles were the regulation 39 feet out from the rails and the going was perfect. All the fast work timed took place on the course proper. Reciprocal (J. T. Anderson), which appears to have improved lately, ran six furlongs in Imln 17 2-ssec, the last three in 40sec. He did it easily. Floodlit (A. T. Jones) ran an easy half-mile in 58 2-ssec. the last three tn 43 3-ssec. Floodlit is at peak fitness and in hard condition for the Have* lock Flying Handicap. Bientot (J. T. Anderson) and False Problem (R. Saxon) partnered Patsy’s Pride (R. Grantham) for a mile in Imln 49sec, the last three in 39sec. False Problem should be hard to beat in hurdles, but Bientot would need to improve to win the cup. Soiree (Miss Wrigley) ran half a mile tn 51 4-ssec, the last three in 38sec. Soiree is a promising two-year-old with a chance in the Nursery Handl cap. John Derry (B. S. Dodds), which appeals in the Oreka Handicap, and Gayllan (M. Awapuni Raidan galloped sluggishly In his final trial at Awapuni yesterday over seven furlongs with Jay Ay. He was being kicked along near the finish to stay with the three-year-old. Raldan galloped much better on Tuesday, when he ran a fast half-mile. His trainer, M. K. Smith, said that Raidan usually works well without being brilliant. A big team of 24 horses left Awapuni early yesterday for

Blenheim. The whole load comprised some 35 gallopers, seven from Woodville, two from Foxton and two from Levin. Albaneta, an acceptor for both Hawke’s Bay and Marlborough, has gone to Blenheim with four other members of A. S. Kaye’s team. Ichtar has recovered from a slight Injury and he also went on the trip south. He will make his debut as a hurdler tomorrow. Work took place on the course proper 35 feet out from the rails. The ground was easy. Jay Ay was doing better than Raidan at the end of seven furlongs in Imin 32sec, the last three in 39sec. It was impressive work by Jay Ay. Cabriere moved well throughout half a mile in» 51 2-ssec, the last three furlongs in 38 2-ssec Cabriere looks ready for a good race in the Oreka Handicap. Tara’s Pride finished with plenty in hand over half a mile in 51 2-ssec, the last three in 37 4-ssec. He worked attractively in preparation for the Havelock Flying Handicap. Serena was never at top over five furlongs, which took her Imin 7sec. She came fast over the last three In 38sec. The chestnut which had qualified as a hunter last week, impressed in Ms task after which he was prounounced proficient by Mr H. W. Beatson. Vulcan ridden by Ms race day rider, D. J. Finlay, cleared eight flights at a solid pace, assisted over the last six by Rossmoyne (E. Roplha). Rossmoyne, wMch has been schooling regularly for the last two seasons, appears above average, but he will be leaving for Australia in the near future, so racegoers here may not see him in action over jumps. Rossmoyne’s owner, the Victoria Racing Club steward, Mr P. J. R. Steele requires the

horse for racing in Australia. His filly, Success Story, will go with Rossmoyne when shipping space is available. The Hawke’s Bay Cup lightweight, Olympian, came through his final trial well. He worked over about 10 furlongs, galloping the last mile in Imln 51sec, and the final six alongside Chester man in Imin 21 4-ssec. Jen Hal turned in his usual solid effort, running a mile in Imin 49 2-ssec with Signus. They were joined six furlongs out by Far Cry, but Jen Hai proved too good for his companions

running home In Imin 21 l-ssec, and taking 41sec for his last three. The course proper on which work took place 30 feet from the rails was soft after overnight rain.
