WORK FOR MISSION TO LEPERS

The Mission to Lepers hag accepted for service in Papua, Miss Christine Shepheard, of Christchurch, who holds a diploma of physiotherapy and a licentiate in theology. Miss Shepheard will be the physiotherapist with a second remedial surgery team which the Leprosy Mission is establishing in the remote highlands of New Guinea in cooperation with a number of New Zealand and Australian missions. It will be based at Tari, where New Zealand and Australian Methodists have been doing general mission work and leprosy relief work for some time among the primitive but responsive Huli people. The leader of this team is an Australian surgeon, Mr W. Ramsay. The teams will be part of a leprosy control unit which will carry out case finding surveys, education, routine treatment and the follow-up of surgery work. It will be led by Dr. R. Ramsay, wife of the surgeon. Miss Shepheard was educated at the Fendalton Open Air School, Christchurch Girls’

Cooper’s Creek Although It was only a small branch it was alive and financial, according to the report of the president (Mrs R. Taylor) which was presented at the annual meeting of the Cooper’s Creek branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. All commitments Officers.—President, Mrs B. The Ivy Southgate Memorial Cup for most points was won by ths retiring secretary, Mrs K. Bowman.

High School, the New Zealand School of Physiotherapy In Dunedin and the Auckland Bible Training Institute. She was staff physiotherapist at the Nelson Public Hospital from 1962 to 1965 and is now on the staff of the Christchurch Hospital.
