Poll In Two Electorates

Twenty-seven polling places will be open in the Fendalton electorate tomorrow between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. for voting in the Parliamentary by-elec-tion for the Fendalton seat. Three candidates are standing for the seat formerly held by the late Minister of Finance, Mr H. R. Lake, by a majority of 2270 votes. The candidates are: Mr B. G. Barclay (Labour), who polled 6579 votes at the General Election—--6084 counted on election night; Mr J. J. Forster (Social Credit), who obtained 1803 votes in 1966—1670 on election night; Mr E. S. F. Holland (National). Mr Lake, National candidate, had 8849 votes in the General Election 8010 were counted on the night of the election. The Petone by-election will also be held tomorrow to fill the seat held by the late Mr M. Moohan (Labour), who won 8301 votes in the 1966 poll. Mr Moohan’s electionnight vote was 7714. The candidates for the byelection are: Mr F. Colman (Labour), Dr. R. Martin (National), and Mr C. Whitmill (Social Credit). The National vote In 1966 was 5694 (5219 on election night); the Social Credit vote was 1929 (1777). Mr Moohan’s majority was 2607 (2406 on election night).
