Macarthy Building Will Cost £870,000

WELLINGTON, April 12.
The Wellington building division of Downer and Company, Ltd., has won a £872,604 contract to build a 17-storey shop and office block in Lambton quay.
The building for the T. G. Macarthy Trust will replace toe trust's old two-storey building at the northern end of the quay. Demolition of the existing building will start in two weeks and construction will be under way as soon as toe site is levelled. The strops to occupy toe ground floor of tiro new building should be ready for occupation by December next year. The office accommodation should be ready a year later. new block. Six of the seven shops to the old block will transfer. T. G. Macarthy, a Wellington brewer, died in 1912. Many educational and charitable organisations have benefited from bis estate, and toe trust which administers it is considered toe foremost in New Zealand. ' The District Public Trustee, Mr A. R. Robtaeon, said the building would probably be unique in that it was built by a trust of one man’s assets. It is thought to be toe largest undertaking financed by a private trust in New Zealand,
