ELECTROPLATERS TO STUDY NEW METHODS
To ensure that New Zealand keeps abreast of the rest of the world in the technological advances in electroplating, 13 men associated with the industry have left on a world tour. The electroplaters taking part are from Christchurch, Dunedin, Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga. They will travel to England primarily to attend the conference of the Institute of Metal Finishers at Brighton in May. Among the papers to be presented will be one on electro-painting, a method of applying paint evenly by a process akin to plating.
The sponsors of the tour are A. G. Healing and Co., Ltd., a supply house in New Zealand. A director of the firm (Mr R. B. Kay) says that the New Zealand tourists will be guests of the overseas division of the General Motors Corporation in Detroit; where electroplating is done on a vast scale. The American Electroplaters' Society has arranged a series of visits to smaller plants as well for study of the American manner of electroplating. For five days the party will be guests of W. Canning and Company, Ltd., Birmingham,
Britain’s largest and most comprehensive supply house to the trade. The firm’s chemicals and equipment have been used in New Zealand for nearly 60 years.
