AUCKLAND, April 12. The first female student to enrol a* Auckland University’s School of Engineering has begun lectures at Ardmore.
Misg Yeew Geering arrived from Perak, Malaysia, last week to become the only girl among 450 male students there.
She gained a B.Sc. In civil engineering from Cheng Kung University,
Taiwan, before joining the second professional year class for B.E. at Ardmore, and sees nothing unusual in girls taking up engineering.
“It may be so here,” she said, “but not at home. Two girls at Taiwan with me are now working in engineering In Malaysia.” She said Malaysia needed civil engineers and she wanted to lie able to work for the government when she returned.
