Friesians Sold For 270 Gns At Leeston

Female Friesian cattle sold up to 270 guineas at sales held at Leeston and Christchurch last week.

The top price was paid for a rising two-year-old from the Pitcairns stud of Mr E. L. Adams at Brookside. The purchaser was Greenslade Brothers, of Lincoln. Another rising two-year-old from the same stud was sold to W. J. Lewis (Rakaia) for 220 guineas. Mr Lewis also paid 205 guineas for 11 females of similar age. Mr Adams averaged more than 158 guineas with prices ranging from 90 guineas to 270 guineas. For an eight-months-old bull he also realised 135 guineas. yards, E. C. Sunckell and Son (Welburn, Brookside) told three rising two-year-old females at 80 guineas to 130 guineas with the upper figure being paid by E. J. Stalker and Son (Greenpark). I. E. Sunckell also had a sale at 70 guineas. The other sale was the third annual sale of pedigree Friesians held at the Show Grounds at Addington. Here 14 females averaged better than 94 guineas with individual prices ranging from 50 guineas to 165 guineas. Vendors came from Canterbury, Marlborough and the West Coast. The top price of 165 guineas was paid for a rising three-year-old from L. O. Wheeler (Days road, Springston) which was bought by Blackbridge Farming Company (Ashburton). For nine males ranging from 55 guineas to 180 guineas the average was 104 guineas. The top priced animal from F. A Mclntosh and Sons (Flaxton) was born on February 11 last year and was purchased by S. J. Chilton, of Invercargill, for 180 guineas. The Leeston sale was conducted by Dalgety and New Zealand Loan in conjunction with the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association of Canterbury Ltd, with whom are associated The Fanners’ Stud Stock Company, and the New Zealand Farmers and the The Stud Stock Company were the auctioneers for the sale at Addington.
