ADDINGTON MARKET Store Cattle Values Show Little Change

Store cattle were yarded in large numbers at the Addington market yesterday, and values generally showed little change on those of last week.

A big entry of adult store cattle came forward. Though there was a large buying gallery, rising two-year-old steers appeared to be a little easier; but older cattle in forward condition met a good sale. Quality in the store calf section was much improved, but the best of the offering rarely exceeded 27 a head. The medium to good class of calf, in- fact, looked the most reasonable buying.

Store lambs were again yarded in large numbers, and there was a very good selection of both Romney wether and Romney ewe lambs. Top prices in the ewe lamb section was 62s 6d, this being the highest price paid for Romneys so far this autumn. The sale opened with values 2s easier on the closing rates of last week, but the sale closed fully firm. The two-tooth ewe and adult ewe section comprised small lots which hardly compared with the offerings at recent sales.

The store sheep yarding numbered 9025 compared with 9917 at the last sale. It comprised 3308 ewe lambs (2733 last sale), 4870 wether lambs (3711), 286 two-tooth ewes (957), 411 adult ewes (1628), and 150 wethers (88). The store cattle entry totalled 2632, compared with 1350 last sale. It comprised 1142 steer calves, 807 heifer calves, and 683 adult cattle. Store Lambs With an entry of more than 8000 head, the store lamb offering was large for thia time of the year. The wether lambs included a good selection of shorn Romneys, and both shorn and woolly Romneys predomnated in the ewe lamb section. A large gallery followed the sale, which opened with values 2s or so easier on last week’s closing rates, but there was an Improvement, and the sale closed firm on last week. The shorn Romney wether lambs were a well-grown for-ward-conditioned selection and they continued to meet a steady sale. The top pens sold from 43s 8d to 45s 6d, with an odd sale at 47s 6d. Average quality sold from 38s Sd to 425, with small down to 355. Values for woolly Romney wether lambs were little different, the best selling from 44s 8d to 47s Bd, with an odd sale at 49s Bd, and average from 38s 6d to 435. There was again a very good selection of Romney ewe lambs, and the top price of 82s 8d was ths highest paid for Romneys this season. The best of the entry of Romneys in the wool sold from 55s te 58a, with one sale at 82s fid. average to good from 4«s to S3s, and smaller down to 38s.
