FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An easterly airstream covers the North Island. An intense anti-cyclone extends from the south Tasman Sea across the South Island. Forecast; Canterbury and the Kaikoura coast.—Light to moderate variable winds; mainly cloudy and cool; some drizzle patches near the coast at first. Marlborough.—Southerly to easterly winds, strong in western parts of Cook Strait but mainly moderate elsewhere; mainly cloudy and cool with scattered rain at first; skies becoming more broken in the afternoon. Nelson.—Easterlies fresh in exposed northern areas, elsewhere winds moderate and variable; mainly fine with little change in temperatures. Buller and Westland.—Light to moderate variable winds; isolated showers in Buller at first but mainly fine; mild in the afternoon. Outlook: fair. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
