Lyttelton Maternity Hospital

Sir, —It is obvious from statements being made that this issue is being clouded by emotional and political factors. The plain facts are that the present hospital, with due respect to the excellent medical and nursing staff, can never be more than second best, and public emotion could deprive Lyttelton mothers of the opportunity of admission to a hospital where full specialist modern facilities are immediately available to both mother and child. I can appreciate Mr Kirk’s concern for bis electorate but feel he would be better advised to concentrate on politics and leave hospital matters to the democratically elected members of the Hospital Board.—Yours, etc. EXPECTANT MOTHER. April 11, 1967. [This correspondence Is now closed. Ed., “The Press.”]
