TANKER CRASH
Driver In Hospital (N.Z. Press Association) 1 HAMILTON, April 10. A petrol tanker containing 2000 gallons of fuel overturned and crashed down a 10ft bank on the Rotorua-Tau-ranga Highway, 17 miles north of Rotorua, today. The truck driver, Alister William Edmonds, aged 35, of Mount Maunganui, escaped serious injury. He was knocked unconscious in the crash, treated for shock and concussion and minor lacerations by the Rotorua St. John Ambulance, and admitted to Rotorua Hospital for observation. The seven-ton tanker left the road when a wheel assembly collapsed. Several compartments in the fuel tank ruptured and the Rotorua Fire Brigade stood by at the scene of the accident for most of the morning, applying foam as a fire precaution.
