Steady Progress On New Prison
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 10.
The value of work done so far on the Paremoremo maximum security prison was well over half a million pounds, the Minister of Justice (Mr Hanan) said today.
Mr Hanan said that progress on the new prison during the quarter ended March 31 had been steady and time lost during December and early January had been recovered in February and March. The Minister said that tenders for the first 10 houses for prison staff would be called this month. One-third of the site for housing had been completed. Mr Hanan said the steady
progress was pleasing. With the rapidly increasing numbers in prisons it was to be hoped the present contract date of June, 1968, would be met.
