URANIUM SEARCH
West Coast Consortium WThe Press- Special Service Conzinc Riotinto of Australia, Ltd, is thought to be linked with a West Coast business consortium in a uranium survey covering 40 square miles of the Buller Gorge, near Westport. The survey is being carried out by Buller Uranium, Ltd, a combination of Lime and Marble, Ltd, Nelson, and a company formed by a group of West Coast businessmen. The renewed interest in Buller Uranium follows a report last year by the Power Committee on the possibility of an atomic power plant being built near Auckland. Helicopter Survey A director of Buller Uranium (Mr T. J. McKee) said in Christchurch that the radiometric survey by helicopter of the Buller Gorge was well under way. He declined to name the overseas firm associated with Buller Uranium but did not deny a suggestion that it was C.R.A. A geologist employed by C.R.A. (Mr R. Kranic) applied last week for mineral prospecting warrants over 11,706 acres in the Buller Gorge and Inangahua areas. Mr McKee said the radiometric survey measured radiation given off by uranium deposits. There were widespread signs, he said, of uranium in the Buller Gorge.
