Golden Sands Wins Stratford Cup

(N.Z. Press Association} NEW PLYMOUTH. The high-class three-year-old filly, Golden Sands, showed improvement on Saturday, to win the Stratford Trotting Cup feature event, and first leg of the off-course double, at the Stratford Trotting Club’s annual meeting. Driven by her co-trainer, C. S. Hunter, Golden Sands got a magnificent run in the straight and held off a strong challenge by John to win by a nose with Coastaway six lengths away third.

After the running of the cup, R. J. Kemble, driver of Lady Derene, was fined £lO for careless driving causing interference to Trixie Charles threequarters of a furlong from the finish.

The second leg, the Midhirst Handicap, was won by Prince Tudor by eight lengths. The going was good, the weather overcast, and there was a large crowd. Results:—
