SEMINAR FOR STUDENTS
Twenty - two countries from Africa, Asia, the Pacific, and Latin America were represented at the Pan-Pacific and South East Asia Women’s Association seminar for students from New Zealand and overseas held on Saturday.
“The Indivllual and International Aid" was the theme
for the seminar, held at Bumside High School. Students from many Canterbury secondary schools attended, including a group from Te Wai Pounamu Giris’ College. Some overseas students attending wore their national costumes and in the afternoon musical items were given. The day began with an address by Mr A. Quarmby, a field officer for Volunteer Service Abroad, from Wei■lington.
A panel discussion followed. Members of the panel —Mr Elliott Zwangavani (Rhodesia), Miss Lisa Murad (Indonesia), Mr Trinh Khanha Tuoc (Vietnam) and Mr Yunus Noor (Malaysia)— described their backgrounds and future hopes. Questions from the floor were then received. These were discussed after the lunch break and the discussion was chaired by Miss Julie Stevens who has recently returned from two
years’ service with Volunteer Service Abroad to Tonga. About 250 attended the seminar which was held for the third successive year. Through the seminar, the association aims to bring overseas students and young New Zealanders together.
