Power Failure At Lyttelton

AU electric power to the Lyttelton and Heathcote Valley areas was disrupted for two hours early yesterday morning by the failure of an insulator at the Woolston substation. The failure automatically tripped the switches serving the area. When the power failed at 12.20 a.m., workmen had to be woken and taken to the substation to effect repairs. These were completed and the power turned on at 2.20 * Mr R. S. S. Meredith, the district engineer of the New Zealand Electricity Department in Christchurch, said arrangements were under way to alter the supply system to Lyttelton and Heathcote Valley which would greatly increase the reliability of supply.
