Chief Superintendent G. S. Austing has arrived in Christchurch to take up duties as officer in charge of the Christchurch police district He succeeds Chief Superintendent G. W. Alty, who died on February 26. Mr Austing was formerly officer in charge of the Dunedin police district Mr J. Seymour has been appointed fuel engineer for the Mines Department in Christchurch. A former engine room artificer in the Royal Navy, Mr Seymour spent 25 years at sea, mostly in destroyers and corvettes. Mr Seymour came to New Zealand in 1964 and joined an Auckland
manufacturing firm as an engineer. In December, 1964, he was appointed fuel engineer with the Coal Advisory Service Association in Wellington. Mr D. D. Crichton, of Christchurch, has been admitted to membership of the New Zealand Society of Accountants as an associate public accountant.
Mr J. G. Leggat, chairman of the New Zealand Cricket Council, and president of the Canterbury Law Society, has been discharged from Princess Margaret Hospital. He is convalescing at his home.
