RACING Jen Hai Is Strong Awapuni Prospect

Jen Hai should get his reward for recent consistent per* formances by winning the Manawatu Autumn Handicap, first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Manawatu Racing Club’s meeting today.

Jen Hai which has weighed-in in his last five starts, will be ridden by W. D. Skelton. He galloped impressively in training on Thursday and with 7-10 he could be the hardest to beat.

Bandon, which was well beaten in the Adams Handicap at Riccarton at his last start, also appeals for he seldom goes badly on his home track. Tarim’s second with 9-3 in the Adderstone Handicap last week was most impressive. This time he drops to 8-6. Bientot and Mixed Reception will be other strong fancies, especially Mixed Reception, which could be the favourite.

Point Duty could upset his more fancied rivals in the second leg, the Ascot Handicap.

Last week Alkira convincingly won the Manawatu Mile from Loofah. The small field in the Manawatu Mile was Serena’s undoing. She ran too close to the pace. Serena has drawn No. 3, not the best of positions for a back runner, but her class and ability to finish on could enable her to overcome that disadvantage. The track will be fast.
