Advertiser Sought ‘Faith In N.Z. ’

I One of the country’* | largest companies, General Foods Corporation (N.Z.), Ltd., today took hundreds of inches of advertising space in a nation-wide call to readers to “have faith in New Zealand." Fullpage advertisements in nine daily newspapers (including "The Press”) took the theme “Let’s drop the self-pity,” and "Altogether New Zealand.” It is understood that the General Foods advertisements will be followed by similar messages from at least two other leading New Zealandowned companies. The managing director (administration) of General Foods, Mr F. W. Orr, said from Auckland today that the tone of the advertisements was guided by the thought that if the public of New Zealand would approach the
present economic problems In i positive manner the situation would soon rectify itself. “Outpet Down” "Productivity is the great weakness in this country. We must have more productivity if we are to overcome these problems. “The rate of output has slipped badly in New Zea’ land; it lags behind other countries,” Mr Orr said. The advertisement has created much interest, he said. In a couple of hours this morning he had received at least half-a-dozen calls.
Embassies Closed.—The Indonesian Foreign Office announced today it had dosed down three embassies because there was no money to maintain them, the Associated Press reported. The closure of the embassies—in Denmark, Mali, and Sudan—had no political implications, the office said.—Djakarta, April 5.
