Changes In Phone Directory
Some telephone numbers will be changed when the Post Office brings out a new Christchurch directory early next month. The Regional Engineer ( Mr H. W. Wilkinson) said that telephone numbers beginning with 21 in the Riccarton area would be replaced in the new directory by 43. This would make all the numbers in the directory beginning with 2 connected to exchanges outside metropolitan Christchurch. Other number changes in the new book would affect subscribers who had previously been served from an exchange outside their area but had since been connected to the local exchange. A few numbers had also been altered at the request of subscribers.
