Open Prize Unchanged

WELLINGTON. The prize money for the 1967 New Zealand Open golf championship at Hamilton in October will be £lBoo—the same as last year. The feeling at the meeting of the New Zealand Golf Council yesterday was that it should not be reduced because of the heavy financial loss, £1196, incurred in the 1966 Open at Paraparaumu. An application from R. R. Newdick for reinstatement' as an amateur came before the council. As is customary, it decided to instruct Newdick to reapply after two years. A suggestion by Mr V. C. Hollis, a national selector, that decision be deferred for three months and the length of time of awaiting reinstatement then investigated was not accepted.
