Rises In Grocery Prices

The rise in the cost of flour is reflected in a variety of grocery lines such as breakfast foods, a cake mix, breadcrumbs, and prepared stuffing, according to an April list of suggested retail prices issued by one group of wholesale merchants. "

Compressed breakfast flakes of two brands have been increased by Id for 12oz and 2d for 240 z. One brand at wholemeal flour has been increased from Is 5s to 2s for a 21b pack. The cake mix is up 3d. A pound line of breadcrumbs has risen from Is 4d to Is lid, and another brand at 12oz has gone up from Is 9d to 2s 4d.

Two brands of cornflour are Id per lb dearer. One brand of long-grained rice is up Id per lb, and another 2d.

The cost of living for birds is also rising. One budgerigar pack of lib 6oz is up Id to 2s lid, and another line is also up Id for an unspecified measure.

Certain “extras” will also cost more—a popular lime juice 3d a bottle extra, almonds, Brazil nuts, peanuts, and walnuts of one packer 2d and 4d extra, depending on weight; and preserved ginger 2d a packet more. Starch in one brand is up 3d a quarter-pound and some household cleaners in liquid and paste have been increased. Household twine is up Id for 2oz balls, with comparable rises for larger sizes.
