Conditioned Cat-fish

(N.Z. Press Assn.— Copvrighl) NEW YORK April 2. A research psychologist has found that some fish can be conditioned to discharge intensive bursts of electricity on command by rewarding them with food, the “New York Times” news service reported.

A light bulb was placed near a tank containing a small African catfish that characteristically emits ■ 10 105-volt bursts of electricity a day. Dr. Frank Mandriota of City College said in explaining his experiment. A specially - constructed feeding machine dropped live worms into the tank as a reward if the fish discharged the "electric organs” in its tail after the light was flashed. The cat-fish took three months to learn to feed itself in this way, the psycho legist reported.
