(N.Z. Press Association! WELLINGTON, April 3. The Electrical Supply Authorities’ Association was not yet convinced, from information available, that the reasons for the Government’s decision to double the capital contribution from revenue from bulk sales of electricity was in accordance with the principles understood when the legislation was amended in 1965, the association president, Mr A. W. Gooder, of Auckland, said today. “This is a Government decision," said Mr Gooder.
“The association has been consulted, but, I emphasise, it has not given the Government its support for the increase.
“If the imposition of this extra levy is necessary—and there is no quarrel with the principle of paying a reasonable share of capital costs from revenue—it would have been far better to make the change on April 1, 1968, rather than October, 1967. “I have done my best to convince the Government of
the necessity of a delay in the imposition of this extra levy but without success. “However, I regard the increase in bulk supply charges as infinitely preferable to any tax which would have divert, ed electricity revenue to purposes other than the provision of electricity generation, transmission or electrical distribution,” said Mr Gooder.
