Mayor Praises Gardeners
A person bringing a design to fruitition was doing something for his own enoyment; he wished to have his surroundings as beautiful as he could make them, said the Mayor (Mr G. Manning) yesterday.
He was speaking at the Christchurch Beautifying Societies annual garden and street competitions prizegiving. “Beautiful gardens have a universal appeal as they do something worth while to improve the physical environment of our city. The interests of the individual and the community have been harmonised,” said Mr Manning. Mr Manning thanked the society for its work. Mrs Manning presented the prizes and slides were shown of the prize-winning gardens and streets.
