HOSPITAL CLOSING
Protest At Lyttelton A petition protesting against the closing of the Lyttelton Hospital was signed by an estimated 1000 persons yesterday when more than 30 women canvassed the port's householders. The petition, organised by Mesdames L. Clements, E. Wellsford and M. Huxford. has the support of the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Kirk), who is member of Parliament for Lyttelton. The Mayor of Lyttelton (Mr J. B. Collett), who sent a letter of protest to the North Canterbury Hospital Board on behalf of the people concerned, said a special public meeting would be held at Lyttelton on Thursday to discuss the matter.
