Not Enough Wine

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 31. The president of the Wine and Spirit Merchants’ Association (Mr H. L. Stuart,) said that the 20 per cent reduction would make hotel rations even lower than at present. There were not enough locally produced wines to keep up with demand, and the new cut would make the situation even worse. The cuts would not affect prices, said Mr Stuart. "Not Fair” Mr W. Martin, the Auckland provincial president of Federated Farmers, said today that if the synthetics fibre factory at Wiri was allowed to bring in extra raw materials under the new schedule, it was unfair when wool imports had been cut. Raw material would be manufactured in direct competition with wool which had originally been sold to earn exchange.

Concern By Plumbers (N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Mar. 31. A general 20 per cent cut on items imported by plumbers would undoubtedly cause shortages, said the immediatepast president of the Federation of Master Plumbers, (Mr B. J. Mclntyre,) today. The over-all effect could be sqftened by the slowing down in home and commercial building as a result of other economic measures by the Government, said Mr Mclntyre. The reductions would affect the availability of toilet and bathroom earthware, and corrugated and flat iron, which were already in short supply.
