100th Annual Meeting The continuation of the St Albans Library had carried on the ideas of the Canterbury Association in furthering the education of the Seople of Christchurch, the layor (Mr G. Manning) said last night at the 100th annual meeting. The ideas of the Canterbury Association were formed in England before the First Four Ships left and the libraries in the city had inherited these ideas and brought them to fruition, in ' education. More than 100 people filled i the billiards room of the i library for the 100th anni- ■ versary meeting. Representatives from the City Council, 1 and the other libraries were 1 present and conveyed their 1 congratulations to the library. 1 The president, Mrs E. R. Moody, said in the annual re- 1 port that the library had , issued 33,512 books and 1 magazines during the year, < The “K” Pool book service on i loan from the public library i had increased its issue last | year to 750. . Mr Manning congratulated j the library on its service to the community and said that . the City Council had given £92,000 to the city library and ; the 18 suburban libraries in ' 1965. Of this, £26,000 had J gone to the suburban , libraries. Mr S. Penlington and Miss C. Carter, the oldest man and , woman subscribers to the St ' Albans Library, cut the 100th , anniversary cake. Both had ' been members for 42 years. Officers elected were:— ’ Patron, the Mayor (Mr G. Manning); president Mrs E. R. Moody; vice-president, Mr j S. Penlington: treasurer, Mrs B.
