CORONATION CHAPEL
Staff Target £2OOO The need for a chape! at the Coronation Hospital prompted the combined staff to set themselves a target of £2OOO to raise as their contribution to the project. More than £lOOO has already been raiaed by the staff through stalls and raffles and the staff are holding a fair at Thorrington School today to raise a further £lOOO. Coronation Hospital has 120 patients, mostly old people and tubercular patients, for whom at present there is no special provision for church services and worship.
A possible site for the interdenominational chapel has been selected in front of, and close to the main building, ''Services are held in the wards by the chaplains, but considerable inconvenience is caused and the atmosphere is inappropriate for this important aspect of hospital care,” the Medical Superintendent of the hospital (Dr. T. O. Enticott) said.
The project has the support of the North Canterbury Hospital Board and of the religious denominations represented by tiie chaplains who attend the hospital. The Christchurch South Rotary Club is also supporting the project "The staff see their effort as an indication of the need for a chapel at the hospital," Dr. Enticott said.
