Speed Limits
Sir,—ln the talk of altering some city speed limits, it is interesting to note that the northern part of Cranford street is a limited speed zone. Would it be possible similarly to designate the part of Travis road on the city side of Queen Elizabeth Park, and a similar area of New Brighton road?—Yours, etc, ARISTOPHANES. March 21, 1967. [The traffic superintendent of the Christchurch City Council (Mr J. F. Thomas) replies: “The authority for increased speed limits does not take effect until May 1 next, and Is then subject to Ministerial approval. It is not our t . '
intention to light-heartedly recommend over-all increases, but to conduct constructive surveys in an endeavour to find a realistic speed for the conditions prevailing. When these surveys are undertaken areas mentioned by your correspondent will no doubt be included.”]
