N.Z. Fillies Head A.J.C. Oaks Field
1 (Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) SYDNEY. Two New Zealand-bred fillies head the market for the £4OOO A.J.C. Oaks to be run over a mile and a half at Randwick today, with Farmer’s Daughter an odds-on favourite. The South Australian jockey, J. Miller, has the ride. Miller has already won the Doncaster Handicap and the all-aged stakes on Tobin Bronze, and the Sydney Cup and Autumn Stakes on Galilee, and looks set to make a clean sweep of the major races at the Randwick autumn carnival. I Farmer’s Daughter, an Agricola—Geneve three-year-old, is 6/4 on in the early market, with the Te Awamutu-trained What Fun her main rival at 3/1. The Sydney filly, Fun Park, at 5/1, is the only other runner under double figure odds. Farmer's Daughter, which beat What Fun by six lengths , in the V.R.C. Oaks at Flemlington last spring, came to ! Sydney three weeks ago from South Australia with a string ;of victories to her credit. She is still after her first Sydney win, having run third to Striking Force at weight-for-age and being narrowly beaten by an outsider, Sialia, when a hot favourite for the Princess Handicap last Saturday. What Fun (Chatsworth II
is'a stablemate of the champion mare, Chantal. She was backed down to 4/1 in the Princess Handicap, in which she received 131 b from Farmer’s Daughter, but finished a disappointing ninth. She will meet Farmer’s Daughter on level terms today. The New Zealand-bred stayer, Prince Grant, which has gallantly chased home the
mighty Galilee at his last three starts, gets his chance to return to the winning list in the Queen Elizabeth Stake, over 1| miles. In the early market Prince Grant, last year's Sydney Cup winner and runner-up to Galilee in this year’s race, is quoted at 6/4 on. Striking Force, which was third in the cup on Monday, is on the next line at 5/2.
