Riverton Record By Sailor’s Flight

The Wingatul galloper, Sailor's Flight, set a new Southland record for a mile of Xmin 37sec In winning the Beefeater Handicap, the feature race and first leg of the T.A.B. double, on the final day of the Riverton Racing Club's Easter carnival yesterday. The previous record was Imin Msec, held jointly by Jan and Jamell. Lucky Son., which was slow away, moved up quickly and set a strong pace until the home turn. Sailor’s Flight, which trailed Luckv Son, moved up on the turn and held off strong challenges from Golden Boa and Balmaris. Golden Boa came down the outside to get within half a length of Sailor’s Flight, and Balmaris, which was last away and giving the leader six lengths with three furlongs left, came along the rails and was a length and three-quarters back third. .. Silver Spire came home well from the rear to fourth, three lengths back, ahead of Flying York and Alpine Light, which enjoved the run of the race.
