CALLER CUT OFF
The driver of the car, Mr R. W. Bennett, of 512 Moorhouse avenue, suffered head, arm and back injuries. He was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital where his condition last night was reported to be satisfactory. The car and a van had collided at the intersection. The car then struck the telephone box, cannoned off it on to a reinforced concrete pillar on
the corner of the premises of Haines Motors, Ltd., smashed a plate glass window in the building facing Manchester street and came to rest against a second concrete pillar. In striking the telephone box the car smashed the front and one side. After the accident the man in the box complained that his call had been cut off. It was suggested to him that if he got in touch with the Post Office he might be entitled to a refund. Police officers then assisted the injured driver and helped to remove the van from the middle of the road where it had come to rest after spinning through 180 degrees.
When the police returned to speak to the telephone caller ’ he had moved away and they now ask that he get in (ouch ' with the motor accident branch at the police station.
