Chance For Kalimera In First Leg

Kalimera, the beaten favourite in the Warstep Stakes yesterday, may have rich compensation in the Dominion Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. double at Riccarton tomorrow.

Kalimera was a close second to Ichtar over a mile and a quarter at Riccarton in February, and she did not race again until yesterday when she was left with the pacemaking under 9-3.

Kalimera has 7st 71b tomorrow. She will be ridden by the northern light-weight, J. A. Messent, and if she can be ridden off the pace, there should be no doubt about her ability to run out the distance solidly. Min Flicka, a game second under top-weight of 9st 71b in the Warstep Stakes, is another four-year-old getting substantial relief in weight in the Dominion Handicap. She has 7st 121 b, but she will be on trial at a mile and a quarter, having done much of her racing short of a mile. The Greatest and Hushaway are double acceptors, and because they are right in form, their connexions might settle for starts in the Dominion Handicap. The problem horse of the field is Royal Bid. He represents top class, but be has had many setbacks since his New Zealand Cup victory last November. An alternative race for Hushaway is the Templeton Handicap, second leg of the TA..B, double. There have been stronger fields for this open mile at Riccarton, but Tumble, Royal Chase and Her Pal will come in for solid backing after running third, fifth and sixth respectively in the Great Easter Handicap.
