MALTA TALKS
Olivier Berated (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) VALLETTA, March 17. Uproar greeted the Maltese Prime Minister, Dr. George Borg Olivier, when he made a statement in the House of Representatives in Valletta on Wednesday on the outcome of his recent London talks about Britain’s proposed run-down of military forces on the island. Dr. Borg Olivier was immediately accused by the opposition Labour Party leader, Mr Dom Mintoff, of “lying” and misleading the Maltese nation on the issue. Mr Mintoff requested an immediate debate in which, he said, he could prove that the Maltese Prime Minister won nothing for the island’s workers. But uproar ensued, with 50 members shouting accusations against one another, and the Speaker ruled that the opposition should make their reply during the adjournment later.
Points Winner.—W. McGowan, Britain's former world flyweight champion, outpointed O. Myashita (Japan) over 10 rounds in London on Thursday. It was McGowan’s first fight since losing the world title to Chartchai Chinoi (Thailand) last December.
