BUMPER CATCH
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 19. A traffic officer caught a driverless car on the bumper of his patrol car and brought it gently to a stop a few yards from a group of children playing in Ruskin street, Parnell, about 4 p.m. today. The officer’s spectacular “catch” came at the end of a 10-minute high-speed chase through the lower part of the city when the fugitive car, which had been converted earlier from Stanley street, scattered cars and cyclists and broke through red lights and stop signs. Two cars were forced on to the footpath during the car’s wild career. A police search for the driver was unsuccessful.
