Inquiries At Trentham
In the Wakefield Challenge Stakes at Trentham on Saturday Le Danois, which had not raced for two months, did not run up to his previous form. W. D. Skelton said he was riding Le Danois hard at the three furlongs to maintain his position, and this was in accord with the official observation.
Both Ways was ineligible for the Hutt Handicap. An inquiry into the wrongful entry was opened and adjourned, pending an explanation from the connexions of the horse, who were not at the meeting. Near the six furlongs in the Rimu High-weight Royal Escort, which had been pulling hard when sharing the lead, dropped back two or three lengths. J. F. Grylls said that Royal Escort galloped greenly and kept trying to jump the shadows down the back straight. He confirmed that there was no interference from any other runner. Soon after turning into the straight Royal Escort had to be checked when there was insufficient room to go outside Side Show. Gold Bay (G. I. Goss) was checked as a result. Two films of the incident confirmed that no rider was blameworthy.
