England’s Win Series Record
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) LONDON. The England Rugby team regained the Calcutta Cup from the holder, Scotland, at Twickenham on Saturday, scoring a record total for the series of 27 points.
England won by 27 (three goals, two penalty goals, a dropped goal, and a try) to 14 (one goal, two penalty goals, and a try). Scotland led, 11-8, at halftime in a magnificent game. Few England teams have played better than Saturday’s fifteen, although it was not until they took the lead in the forty-fifth minute that they gained the ascendancy. Trailing a little unluckily at half-time due to defensive errors, England was so superior in the second half that the Scots never once crossed England’s 25. “Triple Crown” Chance England now has a great chance of winning the “Triple Crown” for the first time in 10 years, and also has a sport-
ing chance of winning the international championship, in which it shares the lead with Scotland and Ireland. Scotland twice battled back to take the lead during the match after being behind, but in the second half it was outplayed everywhere except in the line-outs. England’s try scorers were C. McFadyean (2), R. Taylor and R. Webb. R. Hosen converted three of them and kicked two penalty goals, and J. Finland dropped a goal. J. Turner and S. Hinshelwood scored Scotland’s tries, one of whch S. Wilson converted. He also kicked two penalty goals. Positions in the championship table are:—
