Girl Dies After Taxi Turns Over
(Prom Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, March 19. Sheila Margaret Pomroy, aged 19, of 91 Church street, Timaru, was fatally injured when the taxi in which she was one of four passengers rolled over several times at the Washdyke Racecourse bend at 2.30 a.m. today.
She was taken to Timaru hospital by a St John Ambulance but was found to be dead on arrival. The driver, Lester Leslie Allan, aged 29, of 21 Andrew street. Timaru, and the four other occupants were thrown from the vehicle. Mr Allan was treated for minor injuries.
Benjamin Anthony Hipango, of 7 Banks street Timaru, who suffered head injuries and a broken leg, and Edward Tokona, of 6 Seaview terrace, Timaru, who also suffered head injuries, were admitted to hospital, as was Judith Simmons, of 94 Luxmore road, Timaru, who suffered scalp and arm lacerations. All three were reported this evening to be in a satisfactory condition. The Timaru police are anxious to interview anyone who saw the accident
